Avon Little League offers 3 levels of softball in the fall. The emphasis during the fall season is on instruction and not necessarily winning games. Fall Softball began in Avon in 2005 with 14 girls and has now grown to over 65 girls. It is a great chance to work on the fundamentals and game situations.
For ages 6-7 the girls will play in the Farm Division. This level uses a smaller and softer softball. The focus of this level is on the introduction of basic softball skills, the development of team concepts and, most importantly, having F-U-N. Scores and standings are not kept and there is no end of season playoffs for this level.
For ages 8 & 9 & 10 the girls will play in the Minors Division. An 11 inch softball will be used, with the fundamentals of Softball, including the windmill pitch emphasized. Players will pitch; everyone will bat in the lineup, and will play at least 3 defensive innings.
For ages 10, 11 & 12, the girls will play in the Majors Division. At the Majors level, all Little League softball rules are followed. Pitching is 'fast' pitch and delivered using the windmill delivery. It is the most competitive level of Little League Softball.
