 Tournament Selection Process - Players

It is the policy of Avon Little League (ALL) that the opportunity for Avon Little League players to participate in post season tournaments should be maximized to the extent that qualified managers and coaches are available, to the extent that ALL resources allow the payment of entry fees and the provision of equipment and uniforms, and to the extent that acceptable playing opportunities are available.

One team shall be entered in each tournament sponsored by Little League Baseball in Williamsport, PA. There are usually three such teams:

1. 11/12 year olds
2. 10/11 year olds
3. 9/10 year olds

In addition, ALL has often sponsored several non-Williamsport teams in local tournaments, such as the Jim Lindquist Memorial tournament.

The All Star Committee (Committee) is composed of the President or his designee, the major league Player Agent, Major League Coordinator, and two at-large Board Members appointed by the President. The Committee will solicit player rankings from the Major League managers and, if deemed appropriate, from minor league managers.

11/12 year old team and 10/11 year old team

In connection with the selection of the 11/12 year old team, the Major League managers will be asked to list the 15 best 11 & 12 year old players in the Major League, in order, with no ties. No manager may list a player on his or her own team (Softball Managers may list players on their own team due to the small number of Softball teams). The availability, presumed or known, of any player shall not be taken into account by the voting Managers. In advance of the all star process the Major League Coordinator will provide to the Major League managers a list of any player or players ineligible for all stars based on regular season playing time or residency rules.

In connection with the selection of the 10/11 year old team, the Major League managers will be asked to list the 15 best overall 11 year old players in the Major League, in order, with no ties. No manager may list a player on his or her own team. The availability, presumed or known, of any player shall not be taken into account by the voting Managers.  In advance of the all star process the Major League Coordinator will provide to the Major League managers a list of any player or players ineligible for all stars based on regular season playing time or residency rules.

The Major League Coordinator will tally the rankings, based upon 15 points for a number one ranking down to 1 point for a 15th ranking. The rankings of each manager and the results of the tally shall be available to the All Star Committee and to no other persons. The Committee will determine the size of the rosters. The Committee will select Players for the all star rosters, choosing from the list of players receiving rankings. The Committee will give substantial weight to the tally of rankings, to availability and desire to play of Players, and to team composition, especially pitchers and catchers. The Committee may also solicit input from all star managers. Should Players decline roster spots, or leave rosters due to illness, injury or other reasons, at their discretion the Committee may select other Players to fill those roster spots.

Eleven year olds selected by the All Star Committee for the 11/12 Williamsport team will be offered a roster spot on that team only. Those players will be allowed to play on that team only, if they choose to play at all. They will not be allowed to play on the 10/11 Williamsport team.

9/10 Year Old Team

It is likely, but not certain, that the Committee will select those 10 year old players in the Major League for this team.  In filling the remainder of the roster spots of the 9/10 year old team, the Minor League (AAA) managers will be asked to list the 10 best overall 10 year old players in the Minor (AAA) League, in order, with no ties. No manager may list a player on his or her own team..

The Major League Coordinator will tally the rankings, based upon 10 points for a number one ranking down to 1 point for a 10th ranking. The rankings of each manager and the results of the tally shall be available to the All Star Committee and to no other persons. The Committee will select Players for the all star roster, choosing from the list of players receiving rankings.

All Williamsport All Star Teams

In making selections for all of the all star teams, the Committee shall bear in mind that it is the policy of ALL that, in all star play, it is the objective of ALL to win each game and to advance in the tournament as far as possible.

Selection or non-selection of a player to all star teams in prior years shall not be considered.

Players and parents are advised that Little League rules provide that in order to be eligible for all star selection a player must:
  1. play in 60% of his / her team’s games prior to June 15th.
  2. provide three (3) forms of documentation establishing residency in the Town of Avon on or before February 1st of the all star tournament year.

Players and parents are advised that players must generally be available for the entire time scheduled for the tournament and pre-tournament practice.

Players and parents are advised that the minimum play rule applicable during the tournaments is different than the minimum play rule applicable during the regular season. During tournament play, each player available to play must play at least the minimum playing time as defined by Little League Baseball. It is likely that some players will play only the minimum in some or all games.

The selection of Players for non-Williamsport teams shall be made by the approved managers of those teams with the approval of the Player Agent.
